EDITORIAL IN BRIEF

The Big Issue Cymru:
Political & social Campaigns

The Big Issue Cymru has campaigned against injustice across Wales for 10 years since it’s inception. Over the past year we have highlighted the case of Mohanmon Singh, an ill, homeless refugee whose family were murdered due to their religion, and threatened with deportation.
we have also highlighted the violence experienced by our own vendors, attacked on the streets while selling The Big Issue.

The Big Issue caught the imagination of the public when it was first launched and it’s single-minded opposition to policies and prejudices that held homeless people in a hope of hopelessness catalysed great change. Its combination of hard-edged political, social and general interest features has caught the imagination of hundreds of thousands of readers every week, with 5 regional editions stretching the length and breadth of Britain.

With the exception of the BBC, The Big Issue is the only truly national media operation to have offices and staff in every major city in the UK, providing a source of information, news and knowledge of what’s really happening at the grassroots and on the streets.

Because The Big Issue is independent of all other media, commercial or political interests, this gives us license to be challenging, opinionated, campaigning and publish without fear or favour. This attitude has led to exclusive interviews with some of the countries biggest stars. Celebrities such as George Michael and Shane Ritchie have chosen to speak to The Big Issue when they spoken to no other publication.

Every week we give our vendors the opportunity for expression in our Vendors Verbal pages, featuring writing, poetry and art from our vendors, providing a true voice from the streets and a chance for vendors to reach readers directly.

Respected Editorial, respected Readership

“exclusive interviews with some of the countries biggest stars”

Our coverage of music, clubs, film and the arts provides the cutting edge to what’s new and happening throughout the UK – keeping our readers ahead of the game.

Advertisers find that the magazine’s integrity, bold unapologetic style and respected editorial attracts an exclusive readership of socially aware, active individuals which no other publication reaches.

The Big Issue is more than just a product, and after our vendors, the magazine is our most valuable asset. Written and published in the same manner as every professional magazine, the only difference is the unique and positive way it is distributed and sold.
