Building company boss to help out Welsh football league
A Caerphilly building company boss is helping raise funds for Street Football Wales by taking part in the London Triathlon.
Chris Dennis, director of GKR Maintenance and Building Company, already has one triathlon under his belt this year. But on August 8 he will undertake a 1,500m swim, 40km cycle ride and 10km run, following the route that will be used by Olympic triathletes at the London 2012 games.
He said: “I first became aware of Street Football Wales last year and the organisation inspired me to combine my love of football and competing in triathlons to raise money for a worthwhile cause which has been overlooked for far too long.
“With the ongoing battle that the homeless face in terms of stereotyping and prejudice, it’s good to be able to give back to this part of the community.”
Street Football Wales, which helps over 100 socially excluded football fans from across Wales compete in an organised league that promotes team-building skills and fitness, has been hampered by lack of funds, and the Welsh squad was forced into withdrawing from this year’s Homeless World Cup, which takes place in Rio de Janeiro in September.
