Big Issue columnist bidding for World Cup glory

18/05/2010

Punk veterans to release track about fantasy 11... featuring featuring Iggy Pop and Gandhi

Regular Big Issue columnist John Robb is hoping for success at the World Cup in
South Africa next month.

Robb’s band Goldblade release their World Cup song '
England's Still Dreaming' next week (May 24) - one of the summer’s many unofficial anthems.

Scotland fans should not be dismayed however – the song is a fantasy about an international select of counter-cultural icons like Bob Marley, Joe Strummer, Syd Barrett, Marc Bolan, Patti Smith, Lee Scratch Perry, Elvis, John Lennon and Iggy Pop playing alongside Leonardo Da Vinci and Gandhi. The captain? George Best.

Robb has also recorded a Portuguese version of the song for
Brazil where Goldblade have a considerable fan-base. The band will be flying out to South Africa to perform at several World Cup functions in June.
