Big Issue now features in national exams

Standard Grade pupils tested on chimp article

As if another good reason to read The Big Issue was necessary, the magazine could offer secondary pupils clues on how to pass their exams.

The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) has revealed part of the most recent Standard Grade English exam’s text was a 2008 piece in The Big Issue in Scotland. Pupils were asked questions about ‘Chimps Go Ape in Zoo’ – an article about the opening of the £5.6m Budongo Trail at Edinburgh Zoo.

The piece will be used as part of the SQA’s project to publish a vast bank of past papers on its website from Autumn 2010. The guides will be available to download free of charge.
